Fact Check: Video Does NOT Show Actor Cillian Murphy Waving Palestinian Flag On Street Different Man

Does a video show actor Cillian Murphy waving a Palestinian flag on the street? No, that's not true: The person waving the flag in the video is Derek Brennan, who runs tours of locations of Murphy's Netflix show "Peaky Blinders" in Birmingham, England. The X account that posted the video later stated that the person in the video is Brennan, not Murphy.

The claim appeared in a post and video (archived here) on X on November 14, 2024. It said:

What happens when a protest for Palestine goes past the set filming for the new film of Peaky Blinders?
Cillian Murphy does this....

This is what the post looked like on X at the time of writing:

About 17 hours after this post, another post on X (archived here) by the same account states in the comments:

I did say, further up this post, several hours ago, that it was Derek Brennan the guy that runs Peaky Blinders tours in Birmingham.

Below is a live embed of that post:

Brennan (archived here) is the creator of a tour promoter, Birmingham Peaky Blinder, as the organization's Facebook page notes (archived here). A "Peaky Blinders" gathering was held in Birmingham on October 13, 2024, as this Facebook page shows (archived here), in front of the restaurant The Big Bulls Head in Birmingham (archived here).

There was also a pro-Palestinian protest on October 13, 2024, in Birmingham as the group Birmingham Palestine Action posted on their Facebook page (archived here), and as local website Birmingham Live reported (archived here).

Lead Stories reached out to Murphy's representative, Netflix, Brennan and the Birmingham Peaky Blinder tour group and will update the story when a comment is received.
