Did U.S. citizen Renee Good, shot and killed in Minneapolis by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent on January 7, 2026, actually live elsewhere outside Minnesota? No, that's not true: Multiple credible media outlets described her as a resident of that city. The Minneapolis Mayor said that Good lived there on the day of her death. The claim was made with no evidence to corroborate it. The map posted with the claim could be created by any computer or smartphone user at any time. It does not prove she drove that route that day.
The claim that she had driven from some other city appeared in a post (archived here) published on X on January 8, 2026. It read:
The northern most part of Missouri is 5 and a half hours way from Minneapolis. Why did Renee Good drive at least 350 miles to interfere with federal law enforcement?
This is what the image attached to the post looked like at the time of writing:

The post implied that Good was not a local to either Minnesota or the community of Minneapolis, where she was shot to death on January 7, 2026 (archived here).
In the aftermath, multiple credible media organizations extensively reported on her life. Among those who published detailed articles were the Washington Post (archived here), the BBC (archived here) and KMBC -- a television station in Kansas City, Missouri, affiliated with ABC.
Their coverage said that Good was a Minneapolis resident between March 2025 and her death, despite being previously based in several places. They reported she had just dropped her 6-year-old son at his Minneapolis school.
Born in Colorado Springs, she attended Metropolitan State University in Denver, Colorado. She also went to the Old Dominion University in Virginia.
When Good married her current spouse, Rebecca Good, they moved to Kansas City, Missouri, and then the couple attempted a relocation to Canada, but they didn't stay there for long.
News articles explicitly referred to some of the sources as Good's "neighbors" and detailed their responses to her death.
On January 8, 2026, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (archived here) wrote a guest essay (archived here) for the New York Times about the events of the previous day. In it, he confirmed that Renee Good was a "resident of Minneapolis" when she was fatally shot.
Lead Stories searched but did not find any credible sources questioning the residency of the woman.
Had the story about a recent long drive been true, that on its own still wouldn't prove anything: People may drive long distances for all kinds of reasons, including catching up with friends and family around significant holidays such as Christmas, celebrated two weeks before the ICE agent opened fire that killed Good.
