Did California Governor Gavin Newsom really criticize a real Truth Social post that depicts Donald Trump touting a crypto-only casino with the same name as Trump's closed Atlantic City casino, Trump Castle? No, that's not true: There are two distinct fakes. First, Trump had never, as of May 6, 2026, posted on Truth Social about "trumpcastle.net". The screenshot of that post is a fake. The Newsom post is itself a fake: the X account on which it appeared is a satire account not affiliated with Newsom's offices.
The claim appeared in a May 6, 2026, post on X.com account @AwesomeNewsom (archived here). It opened:
If you believe that Donald Trump is not making a killing on this, I have a ballroom to sell you.
This is what the post looked like on X at the time of writing:

The screenshot imitates the appearance and style of a Truth Social post by @realDonaldTrump. The "post" is about a crypto-only online casino with the same name as the now-closed Atlantic City Casino, Trump Castle, being launched by Trump's communications director Steven Cheung. There was no such post by Trump on Truth Social, a search of keywords here (archived here) found, as this screenshot shows:

The account that posted the fake screenshot is a parody account, not Gov. Newsom's real X account @GovPressOffice that often posts mocking messages about Trump. This is a screenshot of the X account @AwesomeNewsom bio, showing it is a fan account:

Such an announcement would have attracted wide coverage, given Trump's prominence and ongoing news media focus on cryptocurrencies, online gaming and allegations that Trump staff and family have improperly profited from proximity to power. Lead Stories searched Google News (archived here) and Yahoo! News (archived here) and did not find any matching results of news reports about the casino.
