Does a viral video show real footage of a Jesus-shaped cloud at sunset? No, that's not true: Three online AI detection tools found signs of AI in it. Lead Stories' visual analysis revealed that the phones of the amazed ship passengers supposedly recording the sighting did not show the Jesus-shaped cloud on their screens.
The claim appeared in a post (archived here and here) published on X by @LeahRain77 on May 25, 2026. The caption read:
Is this Pareidolia AI Or A true miracle ? I truly have no idea
This is what a thumbnail from the video attached to the post looked like on X at the time of writing:

Pareidolia, mentioned in the caption, is, per NASA (archived here), "the psychological phenomenon where we see recognizable shapes in clouds, rock formations, or otherwise unrelated objects or data". However, the video in question was neither that nor a "true miracle" -- it was AI-made.
AI detection tool Hive Moderation found that the video was 97.7% likely to have been generated by AI:

When Lead Stories tested the thumbnail image from the video, AI or Not, another AI detector, said that the odds of it being created with AI were 76%:

Hiya, an AI audio detection tool in the InVID verification plugin, considered the sound in the clip to be a product of generative AI, too:

A manual analysis revealed several inconsistencies indicative of AI. For example, a phone screen of a man recording the supposed scene showed only a regular sunset, without Jesus appearing in the skies:

Another screen held by a blond woman did not show Jesus Christ, either:

Additionally, one person in the crowd had an unnaturally shaped head:
