Fact Check: Real Videos Show James Franco Making '2319' References -- It's Unclear What He Is Talking About Hard To Say

Do real videos show actor James Franco making "2319" references? Yes, that's true, but it is complicated: It is not clear what Franco is referring to in the series of videos that first appeared in early June 2026. The name of his TikTok account includes the number 2319, which references the emergency code in the Pixar film "Monsters, Inc." that the Child Detection Agency in the movie uses when a human item is brought into the monster world. Specifically, it refers to a white sock. "W" is the 23rd letter of the alphabet, and "S" is the 19th, hence 2319.

The claim appeared in a video (archived here) published by James Franco (@jamesfranco2319) on TikTok on June 7, 2026. Its description read:

I can't say to [sic] much right now. But stick around and I promise it will all make sense.

This is what the post looked like on TikTok at the time of writing:

In the video, Franco says:

Hey guys, this is James Franco. Me, really James Franco. I'm here at my house. I'm not promoting anything, okay? I'm making this account because, alright, some serious, some serious shit's going on. Okay, and look here, this is real. Okay, I'm real. It's me, not AI, not anything. Okay? Could AI James do this? No, could not write this. [writes the account name on a piece of paper with a marker -- @jamesfranco2319 -- and holds it up for the camera]

This is me. Okay. Okay. For those who know. [pointing to the 2319 in the account name]

Alright. Some serious stuff going on; that's why I'm contacting you, that's why I'm doing this. Okay? I know, I maybe seem crazy, like, why, what's going on, what's the gimmick? No, this is real. Real. Okay, I can't say too much right now. I just need you to follow me, then I'll know who's down, and I'm going to show you some crazy stuff. Okay? Just follow me, I'm gonna, I'm going to show you.

Again, 2319 is the emergency code from "Monsters, Inc.," but it's unclear if that's what he's referring to.

As of June 8, 2026, Franco had released six videos on his @jamesfranco2319 account (archived here) on TikTok. In order, the descriptions read:

  1. "I can't say to [sic] much right now. But stick around and I promise it will all make sense."
  2. "2319"
  3. "Is nobody listening??????"
  4. "I'm leaving it in your hands."
  5. "If they take me you'll know what happened!"
  6. "I think I'm being watched."

Throughout the videos, Franco repeats his claim that "there's some crazy stuff" going on but does not give any additional details other than suggesting he might disappear. Several of the videos are produced with sound effects and dramatic music. They are not single-take shots posted to the platform. Some of the scenes in the fifth video appear to come from a movie set, while the song "No More Blah Blah" by Vesanic and ünperturbed plays.

In all of the videos, Franco is wearing a well-worn blue T-shirt with the name "Bruce Robinson" written across the front. There is a British filmmaker named Bruce Robinson, but there is no clear industry connection between the two men.

Franco's TikTok account only follows two other accounts. One is the account of director Christian Guiton (archived here). The other account is TheSunshineMovie (archived here), the official account of "Love Meets in the Sunshine," a movie directed by Christian Guiton and starring Franco and Nick Antonyan.

Lead Stories found that at least one of the scenes from the movie (archived here) also matched the setting in a scene that Franco shared in his fifth video (archived here). The scenes appear next to each other below. The yellow circles show the same car, while the red arrows show the same mountain ridge in the background:

Guiton posted two videos regarding Franco on his TikTok account. In both videos, Guiton confirmed that the videos were real, not AI versions of Franco. In his first video (archived here) on Franco, he said in part:

I don't know what's going on. I know as much as you guys know. I could tell you it's not promotion for Sunshine, which is the movie I did with him a few months ago. It's not promotion for that, and I could tell you it's really him. That's not AI, like, that's James.

In a second video (archived here), Guiton said he talked with Franco on the phone, but didn't have any new information other than he had "found something," and planned to meet with the actor in the coming days. Guiton said he would post another video when that happened.

Lead Stories also reached out to the most recent public relations firm known to be working with Franco, asking for comment on the social media posts. Lead Stories did not receive an immediate response.
