Fact Check: Inter Miami Player Germán Berterame Did NOT Die After Collision Shown In Video Discharged

Did Inter Miami player Germán Berterame die as a result of a collision seen in a video of a match against Montréal on July 25, 2026? No, that's not true: Berterame collapsed on the field after being struck in the head by Efraín Morales' elbow in the 70th minute of the match. He spent the night at Montréal General Hospital before being released, Inter Miami said in a statement.

The claim appeared in a post and video (archived here) by the @GlobalFC5 account on X on July 27, 2026. It read:

I've heard that this player has passed away, but I can't confirm whether the news is true.😭😭

If anyone has a reliable or official update, please let me know in the comments. If this news is true, it would be a heartbreaking loss for the football world. 💔🙏😭

Inter Miami

On July 26, 2026, the day after the match, Inter Miami released an injury update (archived here) on Berterame. It read:

Berterame is doing well. He was discharged from the hospital today and is returning home after spending the night under observation at Montreal General Hospital.

He sustained injuries to his left shoulder and nose as a result of the hard blow he suffered during the match. He will begin the corresponding recovery process in the coming days under the supervision of the Club's medical staff.

His progress will determine the timeline for his return to physical activity.
