Fact Check: FAKE Video Claiming To Show Nepal Flooding Is AI-Generated

Does a real video show flood waters in Nepal destroying an entire village street? No, that's not true: An online detection tool rated the video as 97.2% likely generated by AI and not actual footage of the Aug. 26, 2026 flooding disaster. There are several glitches in the video that are the hallmarks of AI.

The claim appeared in an Aug. 26, 2026, video posted on X account @Kunwarprakash20 (archived here) which opened:

😭😭😭 No one could have imagined that this would happen... When nature goes berserk, in the end, who even cares about anyone anymore! 🌊💔
May everyone caught in this disaster be safely rescued. 🙏😭

The post claims the video is from the massive flooding that hit Nepal and Tibet (archived here) on Aug. 26, 2026.

AI content detection tool Hive Moderation determined that the video was 97.2% likely to be AI-generated:

There are several telltale signs in the video that it is AI-generated. There are red boxes that appear suddenly in the video that were not present in earlier frames as the flood water races over the village. This screenshot shows the red boxes:

The motorcycles in the video are oversized, as shown by the red circles added by Lead Stories to this screenshot:

As the video pans from right to left, suddenly there is a new building and tree where the old ones previously were, miraculously appearing and getting crushed by the flood waters:
