Fact Check: Trump Did NOT Declare Moon 'A U.S.A. Territory' Satire Label

Did President Donald Trump write a Truth Social post declaring the "Moon a U.S.A. territory," saying it has "rare Moon metals"? No, that's not true: The claim was initially posted with a satire label. Searches across Trump's posts and an archived version of his Truth Social account did not show matches to the image social media users shared with an implication that it's a real screenshot of a Trump post.

The claim appeared in a post (archived here) published on X by the @da5705 account on Sept. 8, 2026. It read:

RARE MOON METALS!

The attached image continued:

Donald J. Turmp (sic)
@realDotardTurmp
I have just officially signed EXECUTIVE ORDER 25-8657 which officially declares the MOON a territory of the U.S.A. We got there first! We put our beautiful American flag right in the dirt, and nobody else can touch it! The Moon is packed with incredible RARE MOON METALS which no one else will have! Total superiority, amazing quality--nobody else has them, and nobody else is allowed to touch them! And starting immediately, any foreign space travelers--whether they call them astronauts, cosmonauts, or whatever they call them over in China and India, like Chinanuts or Indianuts they are going to need a full, high-security U.S. VISA just to step foot on our Moon! No VISA, no Moon! If they try to land on U.S. Lunar Soil without proper border clearance, our SPACE FORCE will deal with them very strongly and quickly! We are securing our border on Earth, and now we are securing our border in SPACE! AMERICA FIRST! MOON FIRST! MAGA!
This is what that picture looked like on X at the time of writing:

As seen in the screenshot above, even the president's last name was misspelled in the account's handle, appearing as "Turmp".

The claim originated from a self-described satire page on Facebook, where it was published (archived here) one day earlier, on Sept. 7, 2026, with a disclaimer embedded into the image:

That account's self-description (archived here) read:

A fictional character based on a selfish crook who inadvertently found wealth and power.

A Google search for the number of the purported executive order across the White House website didn't show any matches (archived here). Neither did a search for the same number conducted across Trump's account (archived here) on Truth Social or a search across the archive of his posts on the same social media platform (archived here).
