Fake News: Florida Man Did NOT Stab Friend For Saying PUBG Is Better Than Fortnite

Did a man in Jacksonville, Florida, stab his friend for saying the video game Player Unknown's Battleground (PUBG) was better than the game Fortnite? No, that's not true, it is a fake story invented by a fauxtire website. The story originated from an article published on April 30, 2018 by Huzlers titled "Florida Man Stabs Friend For Saying PUBG Is Better Than Fortnite" (archived here) which opened:

JACKSONVILLE - A florida man has been arrested for reportedly stabbing his friend for saying "PUBG is better than Fortnite". Andrew Lee, 19, reportedly stabbed his friend David Owen, 20, twice for saying PUBG was better than his favorite game--fortnite. David survived the attack and is currently being treated in the E.R. According to David, him and Andrew were playing Fortnite when David lost, he then said "This is why PUBG is better", at which point they both began arguing before it ended by Andrew Stabbing David. "He still my homie" said David, "he just retarded, he can't help it"

Users on social media only saw this title, description and thumbnail and might have though it was real:

We wrote about huzlers.com before, here are our most recent articles that mention the site:

Huzlers styles itself as a "fauxtire" website and carries a disclaimer at the bottom of each page:

Huzlers.com is the most infamous fauxtire & satire entertainment website in the world. If it's trending on social media you'll find it here!

According to Splinter News the site is run by Pablo Reyes and David Martinez and according to Buzzfeed Reyes is involved with several other fake news websites. They tend to shy away from political stories, opting instead to write for a more "urban" audience, with stories about rappers, criminals and celebrities.
