Are liberals taking the "Green New Deal" challenge by putting their mouths over truck exhausts? No, that's not true: the story was put out by a right-wing satire website as a joke but several people seem to have believed it was real after it went viral.
The story originated from an article published by NPC Daily on February 14, 2019 titled "Liberals are protesting by putting their mouths over truck exhausts to make Green New Deal a reality - NPC Daily" (archived here) which opened:
Bravery wins wars, we all know that. Progressive democrats have come up with a brave new form of protesting opposition to the Green New Deal: putting their heads and/or mouths over truck exhausts, then having another democratic socialist comrade start up the engine. This is obviously to highlight the dangers of carbon emissions worldwide, and we all know, Trump and his henchmen are responsible for these truck gasses.
"We have cautioned students about the dangers of this, but respect their bravery. If they are going to do this anyway, free training in how to safely huff these fumes should be provided by every public university because this form of protest shouldn't be done without knowledge of the medical consequences. We also offer alternative protest ideas on a strictly voluntary basis." cautioned Sally-Dave Smythe-Smythe, director of the California chapter of Boiling Water Protest, a wildly popular movement on college campuses.

But the site has a satire disclaimer on its "about" page that reads:
NPC Daily is a satire site, providing political and cultural commentary with wanton sarcasm. NPC Daily pokes fun of modern journalism and liberalism. If you believe one of our articles is real, it's because the content is not too far adrift from what is published by mainstream news outlets. But, alas, our content is totally fictitious and is created to elicit laughs and bemusement.
The name of the site is a play on the NPC meme often used in certain right-wing circles to depict political opponents as mindless people who have fallen victim to groupthink and conformity.
NPC Wojak is a depiction of the MS Paint character Wojak with a blank stare and facial expression, named after non-player characters within video games. The character is meant to represent people who do not think for themselves and conform to society, bearing many similarities to the terms "basic" and "normie".
Apparently the fact that it was satire was not clear to several people on Facebook who left comments like:
I cant believe this is real !!! The stupidity of the youth has no bounds. This is so stupid it is funny! ]ts like protesting guns by shooting yourself in the head, lol, lol idiots, lol
Darwin awards for them all. I love natural selection. LMAO
That's not mentality healthy. These people need help.
